Welcome Friends, Guests and BAE Members,
Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate our 27th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon and 15th Annual Founders’ Award. We are delighted that you were able to share this day with us and thank you sincerely for your support.
Today’s MLK luncheon honors the life and contributions of America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality. It recognizes a man that symbolizes nonviolence, peace, respect and understanding of diversity. It recognizes a man of action and a man who relentlessly “led from the soul” in order to serve humanity across the world.
“Leading from the Soul: Loving and Serving Humanity” is our theme this afternoon and recognizes three individuals, who like the Rev. Dr. King, demonstrate a strong commitment to serving humanity. Our warmest accolades go out to Jean Hodge, Barry Mayo and Dr. Karl
B. Rodney for their untiring efforts in serving the African-American community. We would also like to thank our keynote speaker Dr. Joy DeGruy-Leary for enlightening us and sharing her wisdom.
This year’s journal is dedicated to two BAE members that passed away last year. T. George Silcott, one of our founding members and Phyllis M. Harewood. Both were stellar examples of those “leading from the soul” and we miss them deeply.
In closing, The Black Agency Executives welcomes the opportunity to keep the key principles and ideals of Rev. Dr. King in the forefront. We strongly urge and call on each of you to commemorate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by making your personal commitment to serve humanity as he did, so that TOGETHER we can continue to keep his spirit and dream alive!
